About this Piece:
The original artwork for this piece was created with homemade black walnut ink and pokeberry ink on cold-press watercolor paper. Erika makes her own inks from ingredients in her environment or with specific elements she seeks from other makers. Walnut ink gives a warmer tone than black ink. Pokeberry ink gives a vibrant magenta that is temporary and fades with time. In order to preserve the images, Erika scans them and has them professionally printed using archival inks and high-quality fine art paper. The artist often pulls inspiration from her environment to create works on paper.

Hebridean Hills:
Unusual livestock observed at a local Sheep and Wool Festival near Rhinebeck, NY was the inspiration for this piece. Hebridean sheep often have 2 sets of horns and sometimes more, making them the ultimate black sheep.
